The Aquatimer collection by IWC is celebrating its 30th birthday with the launch of a new model that the brand decided to clothe in an all-black livery. To achieve this, it devoted five years of R&D to developing a new material more resistant than a DLC-treated metal, the solution generally used in the watch industry for black cases. Ceratanium®, a titanium alloy featuring a ceramic surface, boasts the combined advantages of the two materials in terms of lightness, sturdiness as well as resistance to scratching and corrosion.
The functions of the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Edition “50 Years Aquatimer” are a fine match for its high-tech case. The flyback chronograph is combined with a digital perpetual calendar indicating the date and month with large numerals placed on either side of the hours and minutes counter. The disks are visible through the honeycomb grid that gives the dial a very technical look. The internal and external rotating bezels are a reminder that this imposing matt black 49mm timepiece belongs to the diver’s watch family

IWC has launched the limited-edition Iwc Watches In Movies Replica Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “50th Anniversary Of Mercedes-AMG” watch to commemorate, as the name suggests, the golden anniversary of AMG, the performance motoring arm of Mercedes-Benz. The watch will be offered in a limited run of 250 pieces and can be obtained at just a small premium over the normal Ingenieur Chronograph Sport.Under the dial, this watch stocks exactly the same movement as the regular production IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport or the Portugieser Chronograph, which is the in-house Caliber 89361. An automatic chronograph equipped with 68 hours of power reserve, this movement features flyback performance, a feature that fits right in with all the motorsport racing motif since it’s utilized to time consecutive periods of time such as race laps. It also has the special hour and minute totalizer (that we discussed at the above linked-to article) in 12 o’clock that is intended to make the chronograph reading more intuitive. The one difference between this IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition “50th Anniversary Of Mercedes-AMG” and the other watches equipped with the calibre 89361 is apparent once you look at the instance back. Like the original Ingenieur from 1955, the IWC Mercedes-AMG Ingenieur Chronograph Sport is equipped with a soft iron cage that helps create the watch anti-magnetic, though IWC does not offer tangible figures on how anti-magnetic it really is. In keeping with the motorsport and especially AMG theme, the rear of the soft iron cage has holes drilled into it in a radial formation to make it look like a brake disc. This is with regard to how every engine that’s made by AMG is constructed from scratch by one AMG mechanic. As for me, I struggle to see the advantage of engraving and drilling to the iron cage, and believe a solid case back with similar engravings would have been sufficient. The AMG motif, however, is clear and loud.
